Ship Finder App Reviews

Where are the ships

I have yet to find a couple of ships that I know of in the Bay Area and I know they are there. Too bad there isnt clearer search tool.

New Haven Harbor

I live directly overlooking New Haven Harbor, one of the busiest ports in the northeast. This app does not show any of the traffic within the harbor. I have contacted the people that sell this (paid) app and was told it was a system problem beyond their control. I recommend the Marinetraffic app if you would like to identify the many vessels that sail in/out of New Haven.

Great app

Used the free version, which was fine. The paid version additional function is well worth the modest price.

Ship Finder

Just purchased the Ship Finder app in hopes of identifying the cruise ships that pass our resort, located in the hotel zone in Cancun, as they travel south to Cozumel in the morning and head north in the evening. This app has yet to identify any of the ships traveling this route. A real waste of money. I could have gained just as much info with a free app.

Now I Know

...why I have been missing it! Useful, informative and fun!

What a Joke

Port of Corpus Christi doesnt show any traffic. Waste of $4.00.

Sit

Great App. Love being able to identify ships at a distance.

Simply not good

Bought it To track a cruise, and Its been 3 days and still appears as Not Tracked at This time.

Somewhat disappointed

I was impressed by the display of a cruise ship as it left Miami. I wanted to follow it during my sons cruise so l paid for the upgrade. The ap lost the ship when it left port. I could see it on other web search pages. It didnt even show up in PR or other ports :-(

Cant find docked ships

A friend is on a huge passenger ship in a major Latin American port. The ship is not underway, yet, but can easily be found by "Marine Traffic" app, but not by this app. Am guessing this app will pick it up once the ship is underway, but why no data on docked ships of this size??! Less than ideal, in short. Update: once this ship left port, this app was able to track it for the first few hours. Then, all of a sudden, the app couldnt locate the ship. Conclusion: This app is a waste of time and money. Its data feed is intermittent, at best.

Well done

Good useful information. Nice layout.

Does not work on Mississippi

This app will not work on the Mississippi and tech support does not respond to your e-mails.

Clueless app

Sitting in port Canaverial looking at two freighters and three cruise ships but none show in app

Limited Data

The app has clean easy to use interface. However, the data is very limited. Many ports have no data. The Marine Traffic app has considerably more data.

Fun for spotting cargo s

Functional app with a good amount of customization. Wish they would give port of origin and not just destination.

Very Disappointed

Very disappointing. Cannot find ships which I can easily find simultaneously on MARINETRAFFIC. Have written to the Help Desk 5 days ago with no response. Can I get a refund?

Beware of coverage before purchasing...

This app currently has too many coverage inconsistencies to be of widespread value. The port of Charleston, SC is the 7th largest in the US based upon cargo value…yet Ship Finder shows no vessel activity in or around Charleston Harbor. A previous reviewer noted no coverage on the Great Lakes, and others have noted missing coverage elsewhere. A somewhat belated response to me from the app’s developer (Pinkfroot Ltd) regarding the lack of Charleston area ship data stated that they “see that our Charleston AIS feed is offline at the moment.” Well, if that’s the case, it’s been offline for well over a week now. A competitive app (Marine Traffic) is available for just a dollar more, and has consistently produced better port coverage in all areas checked (including the Charleston and the Great Lakes regions), with none of the random missing data of Ship Finder. So take advantage of the “Ship Finder Free” version and confirm availability of ship tracking information in your desired area prior to making a purchase…or just go with the seemingly much more reliable and consistent Marine Traffic app.
